Downhill to Winter.

Well - Thats it. The nights are drawing in. Winter is on it's way.
I have managed to get out most Sundays.
Most of my mates have all sorts of new bikes. I still have my 12 year old GS.
Having ridden most of those new bikes, I actually still prefer mine.
A KTM Superduke is the only one that comes close. The Ducati 848 I had for a few days (swapped it for the BMW so a mate could go camping to the Lakes) was blisteringly fast, but impossble to ride in town and difficult on narrow, bumpy country roads.
Below some shots and a video of todays ride.
A 9 mile long greenlane was done by all the bikes, including an Aprilia Shiver and that bxxxxy scooter.

Surely its not that bad??
My bikes are off the road at the moment due to bad weather. Its TOO hot. 38 in the mornings on the way to work and a nice 48 at lunchtime. You NEED air conditioning and the BM doesn't have it (I have heard of H...a Goldwings having a/c, though).
I am so looking forward to winter and geeting some kilometres done.

I'm also off the road at the moment. The ****** gearbox has gone again! Third time in about 25,000 km. This time I've sent the engine to Burwins in Lodon. They have a mod which should stop it happening again. If it does I shall probably push it into the Noords Holland cannal.

Is Terry the only person left who perseveres with MZ's.
The best mod to stop it happening again is to surely throw the damn thing into the canal now!!

At the moment, cash is short so repair is the only option to keep me on the road. Perhaps next year?

Sorry,
I have a 250 ETZ in storage in Aberdeen. Its been there for 12 years now. I dead to think what state its in. Is it worth anything, I wonder.

I suppose it depends on how it was decommissioned and how it was stored. I still like MZs though, despite my recurrent gearbox problems. What happens is one or more of the selector forks starts to wear RAPIDLY and some of the cogs grind against each other, requiring a complete gearbox rebuild. I remember Fracis-Barnett, Velocette and Sanglas gearboxes, all of which could be accessed by removing one or two end covers, revealing the innards.
Since this MZ is the only bike that has suffered this fault, I am hoping that Mike at Burwin M/Cs can stop it happening again.
My ETZ is strictly speaking an ETZ300, and though not as fast as a big bike, is nippy in traffic and cruises at about 110kph or more on motorways, as well as not being fazed by strong headwinds, unlike an ETZ 250. Next year, if I am not cheated by an incoming new government, I may have sufficient funds to get a 2nd hand Guzzi Classic, the one with the Breva engine. Meanwhile, Hannah is again looking into getting the Morini back on the road!

After my comment that the bikes were put away for the summer I felt really guilty. So I got up at 5am on Friday (Thurs Fri is our weekend) and set of on a run to Rustaq. Its about 160k and there a nice fort to look at. And some very nice empty roads through the edge of the mountains. Got back about 9.30am. Hot damned hot. But nice to be on the bike after 3 weeks. The BM is so stable and torquey its a real pleasure to ride.
For the record I couldn't have a shower because the water is fed from a tank on the roof and the water temp was the same as outside 45 deg. I filled the bath and let the air con cool it down.

Shiny side up.

PS I assume every has seen "Hitler's Wrong Bike" clip on Youtube?? Its hilarious especially if you don't understand German.
