Extraordinary General Meeting: Saturday 15 July 2017,
Anglesey Circuit, Ty Croes. (Beezumph 26).
Attendees:
Peter
Brian
Swinn
Mark
Meeting commenced at 12.30
pm and was notionally chaired by Peter who is a long-time member of Tr3oc and
has an amally retentive memory of all things Trident.
A 25% increase in attendance
compared to last year. Swinn was with his pal Mark who had been a guest at a
number Bike71 meetings around 71/72 but had never paid any subs. (BTW Mark is
still in touch with Ranger Dave Bowen). Brian was co-opted as last year.
Swinn had followed signposts
this time rather than rely on the young lady in his phone. The journey had been
trouble-free.
There had been requests from
Swinn that Peter should provide hourly weather updates to help him decide
whether to attend or not (Trac Mon being very susceptible to poor weather).
Reports varied from ‘heavy rain overnight, blowing a gale and raining hard at
the moment’ (definitely a no) to the more enticing: ‘not raining, breezy, grey clouds
– but improving’. On the basis of the latter Mark and Swinn decided to risk it
and the journey along the North Wales coast was, indeed, very pleasant.
However, having crossed to
the island it was clear that Peter had studied at the Michael Fish
School of weather forecasting
as conditions deteriorated rapidly. Upon arrival at the circuit a sea fret was
blowing across the site which limited visibility, there was heavy drizzle, and
the on-site wind generator was spinning so quickly that sufficient electricity
was being produced to serve the whole of North Wales.
Initial thoughts were that
the track sessions would have been cancelled. But no, there they were – lunatic
Trident owners in their leather jackets and denim jeans (bikes equipped with
full Cravens and on road tyres) hammering round as if their very lives depended
on it.
Over lunch Peter talked
about the events on the previous day including loss of his pannier keys for
which he had sought the services of a locksmith (Swinn thought a large
screwdriver would have sufficed), a repeat talk by last year’s presenter who
was trying to shift his unsold books and the band which was awful and too loud
(old age speak). He had decided to go to bed early to spend more time with his
bike and, there being nothing more exciting to do, read a couple of chapters of
his latest Harlie Boreman (imaginary-adventures) story book.
On a more personal note he
explained that, due to an intermittent misfire, he was now fitted with electronic
ignition which was providing much more reliable timing.
A tour of the pit garages
followed, with many immaculate Tridents and Rocket 3s on show. There was also a
discourse on the many poor decisions made by designers in developing them . A
couple of pit wall sessions revealed that a Norvil Commando was no match for a
Rob North Trident, also that a super-scooter was faster than everything else on
track.
At certain times in the
afternoon conditions improved such that the sea could be seen. Peter thought he
had spotted a small patch of blue sky but it turned out to be a cloud which was
less grey than the rest.
Peter escorted attendees to
his tent and showed the position he adopted for sleeping with his bike, also
the engraved exhaust manifold which had been bought for it for Christmas 2015
(see clip).
This most enjoyable meeting was
abandoned upon the arrival of another sea fret and with groaning noises coming
from the windmill. Peter was wished
fairwell and hopes expressed that the Saturday entertainment (Juicy Lucy an
authentic Trident-era band ) would be an improvement over the previous night’s,
that he enjoyed his slap-up rally meal by outside caterers (the chuck wagon was
parked close to the main tent) and also that he enjoyed another cosy night with
his bike before he had to return home to his wife
A hasty retreat was made at
about 5pm..
