At Last

Finally, despite the depredations of the Bast* Squad (as Chris calls them), otherwise known as the Dutch Tax Service I have managed to scrape together enough  filthy lucre to fund the trip I had originally bought the Guzzi for.
The current plan, if my niggling backache goes away, is to get the ferry to Harwich and go to London with Damien to see Westminster Abbey and the British Museum.  Also on the list is visiting "Thrasher" Selfe from the VOC as well as Ken from Kickstart Motorcycles and Martin from Burwins, both MZ dealers to whom I owe a lot in keeping my MZs going so long.

Leaving London we will head west to Silbury, Avebury and Stonehenge before ending up at Sherborne in Dorset.  There I hope to find more details on the Grinnams from Norton sub Hamdon where the Greenham side of my ancestry comes from.  After a fleeting trip to Norton sub Hamdon we intend to head north via the Cheddar Gorge to Chepstow and head up the Welsh Marches to Shrewsbury and then along the A5 through the mountains to Anglesey.

After visiting my old haunts in and around Bryngwran the plans are more fluid.  We thought of going up to the Lake District then along the A69(?) to Vindolanda and the East side of England before possibly visiting York.
Then the plan would be to head south to Leicester where the bike was bought to see Stuart at NLM and then back to Harwich.

I had originally intended to set off at the tail end of June but problems getting a new passport and the 3 month fight to free the money mean we shall be going in mid-July before the schools break up but only after Motortoer, the Italian marque dealer in Amsterdam go over the Guzzi on 1/7 to see if it's good for the trip.

Hello, all,

At the AGM in Manchester it was discussed that we have a mid-year Extraordinary General Meeting. Perhaps when schedules are better known we could arrange to meet Terry somewhere.

Regards

Peter.

PS Off to Assen next week!!! On the BMW.

Good idea.

I understand that your itinerary, Terry, is via Shrewsbury so one suggestion is that a meeting could be held at the RAF museum, Cosford which is close. Entry is free and there is a good cafe. There is a charge for parking - around £2.50 I think (but they allow two bikes to a bay).

So according to Google maps that's about 11/2 hours from Chester by A41, 11/2 hours from Stoke, 11/2 hours from Manchester via M6, 21/2 hours from Lincoln, and 21/2 hours from Silsden via M6

Any other ideas?

I can't do 25-27 July but would be OK for 28th or 31st.

Have fun at Assen, Peter. I shall be watching on the tablet. Then it's off to Liege for me (and her) on 2 July to attend the Bikers Classic meeting at Spa. 3-day ticket - Jean is taking a book and some knitting.

I've had a look - Thursday 31/7 would be good. I've always wanted to look at the RAF Museum anyway. There are aircraft there like the Me410 and Sr53 that are among my favourite models here.

OK,
Motortoer in Amsterdam went over the bike with the proverbial fine tooth comb. They have replaced or repaired the faults and pronounced it fit to go. Therefore we expect to creak into action on Thursday 24/7, spending 25 & 26/7 in London, 28 & 29/7 in Sherborne and arriving in Shrewsbury on 30/7. Over to you!

I can be there. Be good if we could muster a quorum.

It's all looking like weekdays. I can't do those!
Also, holidays are encroaching. Sorry.

OK: 31 July, say 12.30pm in the museum car park. (Signed from Exit 3 on M54 at intersection with A41).

Any other takers apart from Peter L and I?

Sorry, but I've had to cancel the trip! For two months I've been suffering from a bad back and neck and, despite physiotherapy there has been insufficient improvement.
Doing a long trip with a sore back and a very sore neck is not really on. If the physio can clear the problem I might be able to rearrange for September, otherwise it's next year, hips permitting.
Sorry again.

Hi, Terry, so sorry to hear about your back. Maybe next year??

So, for everybody else, should we still convene an EGM (w/e 2-3 August out for me as a wedding to go to).

Swin, we could still meet anyway for lunch at the RAF museum, Cosford.

Sorry to hear that, Terry. You must be very disappointed. Let us know how things are going.
