Since getting the KTM, I seem to have started a trend towards singles.
However, no-one told my mate Geoff that the idea is 'performance singles'.
This thing is so slow, but he seems to like it.

I have always fancied an old Guzzi single. You know, the sporty lightweight one with horizontal engine, outside flywheel, fancy suspension linkages. Unfortunately the last one I saw advertised was about £15k. The relatively cheap Nuovo Falcone is the modern successor. I think the engine is pretty much the same – except they put a guard over the flywheel si it looks a bit more modern (probably a bit of H&S too). Apparently they’re commonplace on the Continent having been widely used by the police and military.

Unfortunately, I think with the modern appendages (including electric starter) they’re now a bit on the lardy side and, even for me, performance would be a bit frustrating.

Looks like your pal has found a really good one. North Leicestershire Motorcycles have them in from time to time but if you fancy one yourself and want a real ‘dog’ see following link

An interesting site, but not for me. In actual fact the electric starter makes it interesting. You pull on the decompressor, a lever under the clutch lever, and thumb the starter button. The motor starts to spin. Very slowly at first, but the revs silently, but slowly, rise. When it is considered to be spinning enough, the lever is released, and it chuffs into life. Fascinating.
