(for benefit of those unable to attend).
Attendance: Chris, Roger, Pete K, Swinn, Dave, Ken, Rob, Martin.
Ken notionally chaired meeting but due to enthusiasm of contributors was unable to exercise control. Business undertaken while consuming very acceptable meal at Italian restaurant.
AGENDA ITEMS:
1. Apologies: none as no one apologises for anything any more.
2. Ailments and medication, annual update: out of mutual concern all coffin dodgers (attendees) gave short account of their geriatric disorders and medicinal needs. Conditions range from trivial to life-threatening. Brain scans and blood pressure were most popular subjects. Roger apparently fittest of the bunch. Concluded he was also paying for all other attendees’ medicines (in 2011 had also concluded he paying for public sector pensions for most attendees too). One motorcycling injury noted; this due to inappropriate (kick) starting technique used on newly-acquired machine. Sufferer now making good recovery and no longer needs walking aid.
3. Employment status, annual update: 4 fully-retired, 2 part-time and 2 fully-employed. Ken had taken early retirement/VR but found it difficult to adjust. Has taken part-time work as compromise. Swinn hoped to mark Ken’s retirement by presenting him with framed print. Presentation went ahead regardless. Dave claimed the second print (taken along in case anyone else was newly retired) on grounds he worked part-time too. Roger queried copyright of print but comments were vigorously refuted.
4. Motorcycles currently in use: few changes since 2011 but Dave had acquired a BMW single and was putting up for sale his (formerly Swinn owned) K75S . Pete K had acquired Aermacchi single which had inflicted injury described in item 2. Machines in regular use: BMWs: R1100GS (x2), R1100RS, G650x and Honda CB500.
5. Club badge: Ken offered to get some badges made (i.e not make them himself) subject to design being drawn up. Swinn to prepare something for approval.
6. Future events: last year’s mid-year meet at Mallory 1000 Bikes had not come to fruition. Agreed that fresh attempt be made in 2012. Possibility of meeting Mark at his French ranch discussed. Roger could fly/cycle, Swinn could fly/train or go TGV accompanied by his nurse (Mrs Swinn) - had done similar trip to Montpelier in 2011. Rob to drive a support car possibly accompanied by Chris - leaving just Martin, Ken and Dave to bike down. Rob delegated to undertake feasibility study.
Swinn proposed, seconded by Dave, that attendees should make concerted effort to meet Peter L at Beezumph rally on Anglesey in July (would also be opportunity for keen photographers to get shots of the action). Proposal received general approval. Dave and Co keen to camp but Swinn insisted nothing less than en-suite acceptable. Swinn to research.
7 AOB: time to reminisce and discuss attempts made to contact other former members. Thankfully no mention of Edale but other rallies e.g. Yarmouth made good alternatives. Mancunian Way world speed record was another popular subject.
Finally, vote of thanks to Roger for organising another enjoyable event and maintaining BLOG.
8. Next meetings: Summer Rally: Anglesey July 2012, AGM January 2013.
