What have I done??

Its like this. The mechanic at teh H-D shop (he's Indian) tells me that he has a 1976Triumph Bonneville T140V. It could be for sale. Apperently it was caught up in the cyclone that went through Oman in June 2007 and ended up in bits in a breakers yard. This mechanic took ownership although it still lives on a UK plate and got teh bike rebuilt. By the breaker yard mechanics ( sorry bodgers witha capital B). But he couldn't afford some of teh parts like ignition switch, silencers headlight, brake calipers etc etc. Essential stuff really. So I bought it for 350 quid. No paperwork!. Plus it was in his second floor 2 room flat with wife and baby. So I got it home, stripped it and found:
weetabox box gaskets
one new piston one old piston - DIFFERENT sizes
all the engine nuts loose.
fresh oil in the frame but NO oil pump
etc etc.

Anyway the frame is away fro powder coating, bits orederd and maybe it will be a runner in a year.
DVLA were pretty good - I posted a form to say that the log booke was lost and that have sent me a new one in may name. I think that they have checked with the last previous registered owner and had no reply so its mine.

Second huge mistake.
I have bought a BMW R1150 GSA. All the gizmos - BMW luggage, touratech bits alarm etc etc. Its HUGE. But agreat ride and it does intimidate some of teh Omani taxi drivers. HAven't been too far yet - only about 200kms in one ride but I am using it for work.

Anyway now that all our vitors have gone (daughter and grand daughter out for 2 weeks) and before that a week in London for medical tests for teh daughter I haven't done much biking. Tomorrow I plan to head south to Sur - about 200kms - on the mistress (the Triumph Trident) but an early start of 6am as it is getting hot by midday (about 32 deg c).

I could be in UK for teh Beezumph rally at Cadwell in mid August - anyone going to be there??

Can't see why buying a BMW GS is a huge mistake.Unless it now makes you realise what you've been missing all these years---------

Its such a huge bike.

It makes my Trident seem like a BAntam by comparison. yet I remember my First Trident in 1972 as being so big so fast and so heavy!.

I have to worry now to make sure that I put my foot down on the up side of the road cambers.

But it is putting plenty of stupid grins on my face.
