Hi,
As I mentioned, the kickstarter on the ETZ failed on Christmas Eve (thanks Santa!). On Tuesday last week, with something resembling a warm day, I was able to wheel the bike from its shed and fit the clutch cover with the totally repaired kickstarter assembly. It turned out that the spring had broken, though the kickstarter crank was a bit oval and the cam plate was somewhat bent. My local m/c mechanic, though unused to MZs, is very helpful, and replaced the spring and crank but overdid it on the cam plate.
We discovered that a totally flat plate does not work! However, with a new plate in position all is now well.
As an aside, Burwins in London, from whom I source all my spares these days, had only sold ONE cam plate in the past 30 years as they are virtually indestructible. My one was the second. Martin cannot remember now why he sold the first, since it was so long ago. He apparently has a box of them from MZs he has broken for spares.
Today, I went down on the bike to our local Deka Mart (supermarket) to get a crate of Holger Bier. This stuff is quite palatable, by Dutch standards, and sells at 21 euro cents a bottle (30cl). By now you might be working out that this equates to just over 40 euro cents a pint.
At Christmas I discovered that, with the standard deposit on the crate, due perhaps to an oversight the bottles come out at about two euro cents each!
Bier hier can be very cheap.
